Joana Pereira

“I´ve got involved with PrimCog in 2018, through the organization of the congress “Encontro aberto de Primatologia”, which primary goal was to engage, not only Portuguese Primatology researchers but also the general public, into the primates world. I´m currently working on a detailed description of a tool-use behaviour by a White-Handed Gibbon (Hylobates lar) from the Zoo of Lagos. The use of tools by gibbons has been rarely reported, thus the recorded behavior can be highly important for filling in ongoing knowledge gaps. ”

Scientific interests: “I´m specialized in Conservation Biology and I´m currently interested in applied conservation issues and its human dimension (e.g. human-wildlife conflicts). Also, I have been working in animal ecology and behavior, in particular with Chimpanzees, Iberian wolves and Brown bears.”
